Vinteloper Langhorne Creek Touriga Nacional

£21.00

Voted best TN of the region in 2017 this has the texture of salted caramel and tastes of the darkest, sweetest plums and blackberries, smoked meat, bergamot and violets.  Will pair with anything from charcuterie, to grilled fish or a big juicy rib eye.  Very good value.

Vinteloper

One of the most exciting young winemakers in Australia, David Bowley is Vinteloper: a small operation begun in 2008 in the Adelaide Hills sourcing top-drawer grapes near and far. The wines taste as striking as they look, thanks to David’s wife Sharon’s eye-popping artistry.

A confessed Pinot nut, David was voted winner of the 2016 Pinot Palooza People’s Choice award, for the most popular Pinot Noir in Australia.

He has the classics nailed on, from those stupendous pair of Pinots to elegant, cool-climate Shiraz and the majestic Odeon Riesling, while remaining one of Australia’s most experimental producers, popping up with urban wineries in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

Description

I had to check the price of this wine with the winemaker three times.  It really is tremendous value.  Grapes were sourced from a 22-year-old vineyard in Langhorne Creek blessed with highly saline clay soil and harvested relatively early to retain Touriga’s soaring aromatics.  Naturally fermented and left on skins for 28 days, it matured for 15 months in a 50/50 mix of French and American oak before bottling.  This has the texture of salted caramel and tastes of the darkest, sweetest plums and blackberries intermingled with smoked meat, bergamot and violets.  Will pair with anything from charcuterie, to grilled fish or a big juicy rib eye.  Great barbecue wine.  “Low and slow” as the winemaker says.
