Lowerland “Witgat” Viognier 2017
Made from organic Viognier grapes, hand-picked and driven 12 hours to the Cape, where the wine was made by JD Pretorius. This shows the unique climate of Prieska in its best light. New World Viognier can tend towards the over-ripe and soapy, as well as high alcohol levels. The tricky growing conditions here mean you don’t get over-ripening, and this Viognier retains acidity while still being flavoursome and lower alcohol. It was fermented naturally in old French oak barrels, then aged in barrel for nine months. Classic peach and apricot flavours to the fore of course, with light oak character and some chalky tannins. Lovely.
