Côtes du Rhône such as this is a staple of quality restaurants and household dining tables across France.  It offers moreish, satisfying drinking for a great price and is an extremely versatile food wine.  Fresh raspberries, strawberries, black currant jelly, cedar wood and dried provençal herbs.  Medium bodied with refreshing acidity and fine, fleshy tannins.  From vines aged 25-50 years old.

Le Plan des Moines

Three old mates with six decades of experience between them, got together to create a fresher, natural style of Rhône wines. Wine merchant Daniel Orsolini, sommelier Thierry Pommet, and winemaker Claude Serra, have crafted a series of remarkable, organic, low-intervention wines with fruit from the Rhône Valley’s diverse terroirs. Wines that take you down unexpected avenues and will prompt you to re-evaluate this endlessly fascinating and historic region.

Description

This Côtes du Rhône comes from manually harvested grapes carefully selected on the vine, de-stemmed and put in stainless steel tanks to ferment for 18 days. Punched down and pumped over in temperature controlled stainless steel, it then matures for between 12 and 18 months in vat before bottling.

Have just had a few friends round for summer drinks and Cotes de Rhone, Plan des Moines went down very well. A light, fruity, quaffable wine and a great crowd pleaser. I’m re-ordering.
