“Can I just shock you? I like wine… At any one time I have nine bottles of wine in my house.”

–  Alan G Partridge, July 1994

I’ve been buying and drinking wine for my entire adult life.  I was a customer for many years of numerous London wine merchants.  The problem I had was that, as a private client spending far too much of my cash every month on their wines, I didn’t receive anywhere near the level of service and support I thought was justified by the financial outlay.  This, I discovered, isbecause each account manager looks after somewhere between 500 – 1,000 clients.  It’s not their fault but all they have time to do is compose blanket mailshots about whatever products their company is trying to flog, often because they managed to get them cheaply.

I founded Wine Boar because I was tired of being ripped off and provided with unsuitable recommendations which could have been aimed at anyone.  By keeping client numbers to a select few, the goal is to provide a personalised wine service with bottles specifically sourced for you as an individual.  I want it to be an all-encompassing wine consultancy service.  24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Whatever advice you need, whatever wines you’re looking for, let me know.  Whether you’re planning a wedding, looking to stock your cellar for the long haul, need to find something for every day refreshment or are looking for an extra special bottle as a gift, I want to help.  If you’re in a restaurant and don’t know what to order, text me a picture of the list!

Services in brief

Retail

A list of taste tested wines that represent superb value and quality. I only pick up stuff that’s knocked my socks off.  If it’s too expensive or not up to snuff, I won’t stock it.  I don’t sell £5.99 Pinot Grigio or Prosecco you can buy in the supermarket.  I don’t see the point.  I’d rather drink beer.

Wine club

For a monthly or bimonthly fee, I will find you cases, mixed or straight, of exciting new wines I know you’ll love and deliver them to you (myself if you live locally) with my notes.

Tastings and dinners

I regularly arrange masterclasses with winemakers and portfolio tastings. If you’d like me to come to your house and do a tasting for your friends and family, I can do that too.

About me

On the South Downs/Black Dog Hill

As a professional wine drinker I spend most of my time doing wine related things – whether it’s cutting edge research into pork belly and wine pairings or rummaging around smashing bottles in the cellar.  I reckon a love of wine is a gift and a fun way of exploring the world, its people, their food and their culture.  Ultimately though wine should make you happy and all that truly matters is you’re loving what’s in the glass in front of you.

I’m an avid rugby fan (Exeter Chiefs and England) and love my cricket.  I will happily swap wine for Six Nations tickets.  Bear this in mind when ordering.

I’m an associate of the Institute of Wine and Spirits, a WSET Scholar, international wine competition judge and have won awards for my supposed tasting abilities.

If you are studying towards a wine qualification and are after some advice I’m always happy to help.  Just get in touch.
